Jones the Grocer Opens Three New UAE Locations

Jones the Grocer Opens Three New Locations


Dubai International Airport, Mirdif 35 in Dubai and Flag Island in Sharjah are among the brand’s newest locations.


March 19, 2017 – Jones the Grocer has recently announced the opening of three stunning new locations within the UAE. The new locations include Dubai International Airport (DXB) Terminal 3, Mirdif 35 in Dubai and Flag Island in Sharjah. These new openings bring the total number of branches within the UAE to 13, and counting. CEO Yunib Siddiqui commented on the new openings, “The interest in our brand from both partners and consumers has remained strong and these three openings are a great start to a busy year ahead.”


The most recent opening and the brand’s first Airport location, is in Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3, concourse B. The store is specifically designed as a ‘Jones Express’ sub-brand of Jones the Grocer for high traffic transit hubs and showcases several new design elements and visual graphics. This location offers a dedicated Grab and Go Menu which provides a range of portable items like the famous single origin coffees, croissants, muffins, sandwiches, salads, soups and hearty mains. All items on the Express Menu are made fresh daily and packaged ready for immediate take away.


Mirdif 35 is a LEED GOLD certified and sustainable development positioned in the heart of Mirdif. This Jones the Grocer showcases the new design direction for the brand featuring a broader use of natural materials like marble, wood and metal adding to the the visual environment of the location. Other features include indoor and outdoor seating, a trademark open kitchen, floor to ceiling charcuterie wall, glass cheese room, a dedicated coffee brewing corner and gourmet retail selection.


Located in the 1971 Design Space building on Sharjah’s Flag Island this is the largest Jones store in the world at 603 sq meters plus a 199 sq meter al fresco dining area. It has a quaint children’s play space and a beautiful view over the bay of Sharjah. All the bread and pastry is made fresh onsite, they have a cheese room, a charcuterie counter and a speciality coffee brewing station. It is also the first Jones the Grocer to offer handmade pizza as a part of their Everyday Menu.


Though all three locations offer new and exclusive features, guests will still recognize hallmarks of Jones the Grocer’s DNA in each store and mainstays on the menu.

Jones the Grocer Introduces New Everyday Menu


Last year’s favourites are joined by fresh, innovative and health conscious options

August 7, 2016 –Jones the Grocer has recently revamped their Everyday Menu with dishes full of fresh flavour and flair. Some of the standout new menu items include; Tiramisu French toast; Banana, peanut butter and acai smoothie bowl; Mango-infused baked Greek yoghurt with granola; Poached organic eggs on a toasted multigrain bagel with avocado and yuzu hollandaise; Vegan maki roll; Marinated tuna, jasmine tea smoked tofu and wakame salad; and Mac & (four) cheese with Omani lobster tail.

Fans will recognize a number of dishes, albeit with some tweaks, which have stayed on the menu including the iconic Jones Wagyu burger; Traditional English breakfast; Poached organic eggs on multigrain toast with homemade pesto and avocado; Coconut flour pancakes; Roast chicken, beef bacon and avocado sandwich; Battered fish and chips; Prawn, garlic and chili linguini; and Seared Chilean sea bass on soba noodles, among others. Classic flavours of Australia continue to accent the menu with dishes like Yuzu marinated roast pumpkin, rocket and feta salad; Chargrilled harissa chicken and Grilled Atlantic salmon on our lovely homemade babaganoush.

The new Everyday Menu has also been reengineered with more vegan and whole grain dishes. The entire Jones cake, pastry & dessert range is now gluten free. Organic and free range eggs become the mainstay on the breakfast menu. There have also been a number of new drinks added like the Lavender & coconut water lemonade; Spinach and mango or Red cabbage and pineapple smoothies and indulgent milkshakes like the Eton mess and Chocolate brownie. And almond milk is now available as a dairy substitute.

A new section of the menu to share has also been added, and is served on rustic wooden boards. Delicious sharing bites such as crispy salmon fishcakes, house-cured beetroot salmon gravlax, calamari, Cecina de Leon croquettes, veal pancetta, spicy chorizo, wagyu bresaola and a choice of cheese from Jones’ fromager’s selection can be mixed and matched to suit. Olives, peppadews and house baked focaccia accompany all sharing boards.

The new Everyday Menu launches at all UAE Jones the Grocer locations on Wednesday, 17 August.

Chef, restaurateur and writer will facilitate cooking demos, masterclasses and two exclusive dinners

August, 2016 – Known as the ‘godfather' of fusion cuisine, chef Peter Gordon is coming to the UAE this September to host a series of gastronomic events at Jones the Grocer. Whether you are an aspiring foodie or a full blown epicurean, there will be something to suit your palate during his visit.

Included in the line-up of events are; Two exclusive four-course meals prepared with Peter at the helm of the Jones kitchen; A cooking demonstration, featuring three signature dishes from Peter’s newest recipe collection; A masterclass where Peter will be working hands-on with attendees to prepare two different dishes; Various book signing opportunities; And a special menu created exclusively for Jones the Grocer featuring dishes from the newly released book SAVOUR: Salads for all Seasons, on offer throughout eight different Jones locations in the UAE and Qatar.

“Peter Gordon’s unique cooking style and approach to international cuisine has made him one of the most diverse chefs in the market. Chef Peter Gordon has two restaurants in Auckland, New Zealand (Bellota and The Sugar Club) and one in London, United Kingdom (The Providores / Tapa Room). He has written eight cook books, the most recent being SAVOUR: Salads for all Seasons which will be on offer exclusively at Jones the Grocer. Originally from Whanganui, New Zealand, Peter has been a chef for over 35 years and is truly passionate about culinary diversity and fusion cuisine.

 Four-course meal prepared with Peter Gordon at the helm of the Jones kitchen
Wednesday 21 September at Jones the Grocer Al Manara, Dubai and Friday 23 September at Jones the Grocer Khalidiya, Abu Dhabi for AED 380, with an optional grape pairing for an additional AED 150 (subject to licencing restrictions). Dishes from Peter’s newest cookbook SAVOUR include; Crusty baked wasabi mushrooms, spinach, tomato, orange, dill and grated egg. Baked ricotta and carrots, figs and smoky almond brittle. Seared salmon, nori sauce, crispy buckwheat, gomasio and avocado. Cardamon lamb ribs, mango-cashew rice and red onions. Pomegranate panna cotta with pear and basil jelly.

Thursday 22 September at Jones the Grocer Raha, Abu Dhabi which includes tasters of the dishes being prepared is offered at AED 195. Optional grape pairing is an additional AED 100. Dishes include; Baked ricotta and carrots, figs and smoky almond brittle; Lamb loin, crispy kale, aubergine, shiitake, mint, yogurt and sumac; And Pomegranate panna cotta with pear and basil jelly.

Thursday 22 September at Jones the Grocer Khalidiya, Abu Dhabi where you will get to experience chef Peter Gordon’s cooking techniques on a more personalized level including preparation instruction on; Freekeh, walnut, Swiss chard, mushrooms and tahini mascarpone; And Seared salmon, nori sauce, crispy buckwheat, gomasio and avocado. The masterclass also includes a signed copy of SAVOUR: Salads for all Seasons. It is priced at AED 695, with an optional grape pairing for an additional AED 100.

This bespoke menu, featuring dishes from Peter’s new cookbook SAVOUR, will be on offer between 5 September – 2 October at eight different Jones locations in the UAE and Qatar. Dishes include; Millet, roast veggies, Pietro's egg and pomegranate; Creamy chicken, mushroom and parsnip pie; Pumpkin, ginger, chickpea and cheese soup; Miso-baked aubergine, dates, feta, crispy buckwheat and tahini yoghurt; Poached salmon, almond and grapefruit couscous. Roast chicken, kumquats, black garlic, kale and avocado; Spiced quince and pineapple oat crumble; And Pear and kiwifruit lassi.

May 19, 2016 – jones the grocer is set to open their first airport location next year, in partnership with HMSHost International. This airport location represents a great opportunity for the brand as it will showcase the concept to a potential 45 million customers per year who travel through Abu Dhabi’s International Airport. The store is expected to open end of 2017.

This store opening represents a robust and long term partnership between jones the grocer and multinational catering group: HMSHost International who has F&B operations in 18 European airports and a further 21 airports across the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific. According to jones the grocer CEO Yunib Siddiqui, “There are only a handful of operators who work within the transit hub business and HMSHost International are the ideal partner for us because they bring a lot to the table. We believe that this partnership will enable us to reconfigure our existing product offering to suit the airport consumer which we couldn’t do without the knowledge and insight that HMSHost International possesses.”  

Walter Seib, CEO of HMSHost International also spoke of the partnership by saying, “The affiliation with jones the grocer enables us to provide a unique and dynamic experience for guests at the new Midfield Airport Terminal.  This Australian-born gourmet café and grocer features specialist ingredients, artisan suppliers and an onsite bakery and patisserie all of which will be unique to the typical airport experience.”

The location will feature a reimagined store design over 450 square metres, amongst the 29,300 square metres of sustainably engineered Retail and Food & Beverage space in the Midfield Airport Terminal in Abu Dhabi. The location will feature several brand hallmarks like an open kitchen and cheese room, but will also offer items aimed at those in transit like specialty grocery products, gift hampers and cheeses.

L. Capital Asia takes significant minority stake in brand’s Middle East holding company

May 22, 2017 - JTG Holdings Ltd, the master franchisee for the “Jones the Grocer” brand in the Middle East & North Africa, today announced that it has bought the global rights to the "Jones the Grocer" brand. In a separate transaction, L Capital Asia has taken a significant minority stake in JTG Holdings, capitalising on the company for development of the Jones the Grocer brand internationally. Another subsidiary of L Capital Asia has taken master franchise rights for the brand in various markets in North Asia, South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. The headquarters of JTG Holdings will be based in the UAE, but will enjoy a much wider, global footprint, while remaining true to its Australian roots.

April 25, 2016 – jones the grocer originally opened in Woollahra, Sydney, Australia in 1996. The brand was started by Rachel Peart and partner, Lindsay Jones-Evans. jones the grocer was a passionate project derived from the then-couple’s desire to run an unconventional grocery store stocking products they were excited about. Somewhere that had the best produce - from cheeses and handmade chocolates to olive oils and cakes. This original location was a converted mechanics workshop which was developed in conjunction with Lindsay’s brother; architect Dale Jones-Evans and well known Urban Design expert and property developer Linda Gregoriou.

Today, twenty years later, jones the grocer’s passion for good artisan food resonates loudly across chic urban inspired stores that stock specially selected products and artisan cheeses from around the world and talented chefs continue to cook simple, uncomplicated and great food.

In celebration of this historic milestone, jones the grocer’s Middle East and Asian stores (including branches in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Doha, Bahrain, Singapore and Bangkok) will be having a week-long celebration where customers can receive one of literally thousands of prizes including discounts, giveaways and more starting from May 29, 2016.
